About

Jepp, thats me!

Hello, my name is Norman Kosmal, I am 35 years old and I am a software developer. I did my apprenticeship at cbm Computer – Anwendungsberatung, Bildung, Medienentwicklung GmbH. On June, 18th 2009 I passed the final exams. In the past I have worked for encoway GmbH and NEUSTA GmbH as a software developer. Currently I am working as a freelancing software developer and consultant in the financial service sector.

Over the past two years I have worked on different projects, such as windows forms applications, microsoft mvc and asp.net web based applications as well as mobile applications based on microsofts technology stack. A few of these projects where test driven developed. I am mainly interested in learning how to write robust, maintainable, testable and extensible software. I am very interested in software quality management as well.

What is this blog about?

This blog is about various programming languages, code snippets, tutorials and software projects which I try to maintain in my spare time. This is intendend to be a place to go back and check for informations but also offer solutions to common problems. I tend to write software, that solves common problems, mainly to automate things. A good example is the Visual Studio Renamer tool.

Skills and knowledge!

I have good knowledge in C#, .net Framework, Microsoft MVC 3, IIS, Python, IronPython, Django, PostgreSQL, SQL, SQL Server, TDD, Designpatterns and various frameworks.
I have some experience in Java, PHP, JavaScript and various JavaScript Frameworks (YUI, jquery), tho I am not really the front end guy. I prefer coding the backend.

I work with the most common IDE´s around such as Eclipse, Visual Studio, Netbeans or the good old texteditor. As  version control I prefer working with Subversion Software, but also have some experience with Teamfoundation Server. I like open source!

My hobbies!

One of my hobbies is football, I am a fan of Werder Bremen. I like jogging and all sorts of sports in general. I like to read and learn about new programming languages, software architecture and design patterns. Whenever I find some spare time I also like to play video games. That doesnt happen much lately, tho.

I also read books, for example “The song of ice and fire” series, also known as Game of Thrones, which I recommend. I love cartoons such as The Ren and Stimpy Show, American Dad, Futurama, The Simpsons, Drawn Together and Family Guy.
